Most of All, I Remember…

“There are so many wonderful memories. The entire event was perfect to me — not because the flowers, lighting, linens and all the other little details turned out exactly as I had hoped, but because I could truly feel all the warmth and love between Mitch and I, and our friends and family. I could tell others were sharing our joy and that made me feel so good.

The ceremony was wonderful, and it actually surprised me that I enjoyed it so much. I’d never been one of those girls that dreamed of her wedding day, and I honestly hadn’t ever imagined “the perfect wedding ceremony.”  This made it hard to plan because I really didn’t know what I wanted.  We come from different religious backgrounds – and although our differences in religion had really never been an issue when we were dating, it all of a sudden became a point of discussion when we started planning the wedding ceremony because we both had different concepts of ‘normal’ traditions. We ended up blending traditions from both sides which was symbolically important for us. But what was even more special to me is that we incorporated fun and laughter into the ceremony which is really the key to what makes our relationship work. Mitch played a prank on the best man with the rings during the ceremony, we joked with each other as the ceremony was happening, and I think we were just in our own world standing in front of the officiant, which is exactly how we are when we are together. Of course, the wedding wasn’t without a few hiccups: I had a bad toothache that day and the best man literally forgot his pants, but nothing was going to get in the way of our special day.  Overall, it ended up being beautifully simple, real, and fun — and that’s exactly what we both really wanted.

One other thing that stands out in my mind was something Mitch said in our room after the reception. He went into the bathroom in our suite and after a few moments passed, I just heard him exclaim really loudly with so much joy “I’m married!” It’s hard to describe why this touched me so much, but I loved it. It was so honest and uninhibited – and also just funny that he just shouted it out so spontaneously. I’ll never forget that – it was quintessentially Mitch.”

What Jennie remembers about meeting Robert:

“Robert and I met Labor Day weekend of 2008 at the Blue Moon, in Ft. Worth, Texas. We both noticed each other from across the bar. What caught my eye was Robert’s black cowboy hat (I have always loved cowboys.)

After several minutes, Robert came over and we ended up talking the rest of the evening and before the night ended, we exchanged phone numbers. After commuting back and forth between Waco and Dallas for 6 months, I knew that this was the man I wanted to spend the rest of my life with.

After a year of dating, he proposed on July 3rd, 2009 at my family’s ranch in Creede, Colorado. Our wedding will take place May 1, 2010 at the Driskill Hotel in Austin!”

Last night we photographed Katie Stewart & John Walker’s wedding at Laguna Gloria. (Austin Museum of Art) It was a beautiful intimate affair, shared with their favorite 60 people in the world.

Photographing for photographers is fun, and I was thrilled when John & Katie chose us for their wedding! They are an incredibly talented–now husband and wife–creative duo.  As a photographer, John conceptualizes, art directs, lights and photographs ‘vignettes’ that are ironic and darkly funny. For Katie’s bridal portrait, she wanted to do something outdoors, and something with the Hill Country landscape as our backdrop. We decided on a road trip to a one-of-a- kind, only in Texas, place: Luckenbach.

Katie’s wedding design was Art Deco inspired, as was her look for the bridal session, with vintage earrings and a Russian stole inherited from her grandmother. I wanted to post a few of my favorites from our bridal portrait session in honor of Katie & John’s wedding last night, and in honor of today… Happy Valentine’s!

The Four Seasons, Austin, TX

Most of all, I remember… (tm2010)

“Getting ready the day of the wedding. I’m in my bridal suite with my bridal party, the hair stylist, Elizabeth, who is also one of my family’s close friends, and the make-up artist. I had my hair and makeup done already and I was so anxious for my dress to arrive. I kept asking when it was going to get there. Finally, it arrived and I remember feeling so excited and couldn’t wait to put it on. Mom and Elizabeth start helping me get into it. As soon as it was on, my sister, Shawn just started crying, which made me start crying too. Once I regained my composure I  remember looking into the mirror and just staring at me in this dress. I felt the most gorgeous I had ever felt, and that was a good feeling. I felt like a princess. I also started to feel a little nervous but I knew everything was going to be perfect and the nervousness just kind of faded away. One of  the funniest  memories but also one of the sweetest ones is when Elizabeth and my mom helped me sit down in the chair in the bridal suite. They draped my dress, train, and veil over the back of the chair, and I was pretty much stuck there!  One by one some of my cousins and my godmother came to see me. The looks on their faces when they saw me were just looks of pure happiness. My godmother started crying and the look on her face when she first saw me was priceless! It meant so much to me that some of my relatives came to see me. It made the day even more special.

Now on to the reveal. Joey and I hadn’t seen each other all day and I remember feeling so excited that the time had finally come to see him for the first time. I had really missed him and couldn’t wait to see him. I remember walking down the aisle outside in the Four Seasons courtyard to where he was standing. Some of my family and my bridal party had come out to watch. I walked up slowly and tapped him on the shoulder and he turned around. His was floored. I remember us hugging and then he stood  back and just gazed at me up and down. The look on his face was of pure love and joy and happiness. Everybody has said that they can tell how much we love each other by the way we look at each other. It is a pure and true love.

Walking down the aisle is another one of my greatest memories. I remember standing downstairs with my parents on each side of me waiting for my cue. Then Trumpet Voluntary plays. I knew that was my cue to start my walk down the aisle. I remember feeling an overwhelming sense of  happiness and excitement. I took a deep breath and said “here I go.” I walked down the aisle with my parents and looked straight at my handsome husband waiting for me at the end of the aisle. I remember feeling so much love, so much joy and happiness. And the way he looked at me, it was a look of unconditional love and joy. Then he started crying. I just continued to smile. And the look on my parents’ faces. I had never seen them so happy and so proud than they did that night. Taking my husband’s hand and walking up to the Chuppah. That feeling is just indescribable.

One of the memories that sticks out the most about the reception is when I went up and hugged my cousin Jason. Me, Jason and Shawn pretty much grew up together, since we were in diapers really, so the three of us are pretty close. I remember him saying that I was a beautiful bride. He almost started crying. That just made me feel so special and it made the night even more perfect. He and I reconnected on a new level that night. I don’t know how to describe it.

My wedding night was definitely a fairytale. It was everything I dreamt of. I felt so many emotions on so many different levels that night, I don’t know how to put it into words. What mattered most to me that night was that I was surrounded by all my family and friends that I love so very much. The fact that they all came from near and far to share this milestone in my life with me means more to me then anyone will ever know. We all had the time of our life.  And my husband. I don’t even know where to start!  He is perfect for me and the fact that I found him and married him is still amazing to me. We just click and we get along. We complement each other on every level and he is so good to me. The kind of love we have is indescribable and hard to find. We feel so lucky and blessed that we found each other.

When Joey and I were walking up the grand staircase after the night was over, going through all the confetti was awesome! I loved being able to see everybody that had come to our wedding smiling, laughing an cheering for us. Joey and I were so in love and so ecstatic. Once we got up the stairs I remember looking back for one last glance.

It felt like everything, just for one short moment, stopped. I couldn’t believe it was over! It had gone by so fast! I remember feeling all these different emotions at once.”

Hyatt Lost Pines

Most of all I remember…. (tm2009)

“The overwhelming joy and peace I felt the moment I woke up the morning of our wedding.  The weather forecast was terrible, but the most unbelievable feeling of ease took over…I was about to marry my best friend…a man who I loved with all my heart.  My sister and I were sharing a room and I remember us looking at each other, not saying a word, but understanding what we were each thinking, “I cannot believe it is finally here!”

I went on a long walk with a few of my girlfriends, and we reminisced about the rehearsal dinner and Peter’s unbelievable speech.  The rehearsal dinner was so special and my mother-in law, who I believe is the best mother-in law on the planet, made it perfect for Peter and I.  Each moment that day I feel more and more in love with him.  People say there is something magical about marriage…that moment…on our walk…I realized it was true.

I remember laughing A LOT that day with my friends and family.  I remember my sister and new sister-in-laws telling funny stories about my childhood and Peter’s childhood.  My wedding party got their hair and makeup done in our room, and I remember thinking…I have the most beautiful friends…inside and out.  The feeling was overwhelming.  My mom came into our room, and I cried for the first time that day as she hugged me and told me what I meant to her.

I remember watching the rain poor down, wondering what we were going to do for this outdoor wedding…worrying how everyone was going to under the tent…praying the rain would subside after the ceremony so people could get to the reception without hassle.  God truly made this day the most perfect day of my life…whether my original plans were carried out or not…He had his own plan.

I remember seeing my dad for the first time.  Until Peter, he was the man in my life…one whose shoulder I cried on…one who picked me up every time I feel…a father, a best friend.  I remember looking at him and crying tears of joy hoping the mascara would not run down my face.  I remember him whispering in my ear, “we were a good team.”  We stood in the lobby, about to walk down the aisle…both so nervous…both so thankful…both trying to hold back crocodile tears.

I remember walking down the aisle and seeing Peter’s handsome face for the first time that day.  I remember thinking, “I am the luckiest girl in the world.”  I remember this feeling of love and joy…one that I had never felt….one that lingers and grows stronger each day of our marriage.  As I walked, I kept my eyes on Peter, who was smiling and crying.  I remember the smile on my Dad’s face as he handed me over to Peter…the only man on the planet my father would be confident handing me over to, and the only man on the planet I felt was suitable to take the role as, “man in my life.”  Then, the rain stopped.  The ceremony was so special.  My cousin was the minister, and his words were so sweet.  Peter and I were so giddy…crying and laughing all in the same breath.  I remember being pronounced man and wife and turning to walk down the aisle…for the first time noticing all of our friends and family who chose to stand and witness our marriage.  What a sweet sight?  I remember seeing my mother’s face light up.  I looked to my right and she was beaming.  She has the most beautiful smile of any woman I know, I believe her heart is seen through her eyes.

I remember walking into the reception after spending a few quiet moments with my new husband.  Peter and I were holding hands as we entered the ballroom, and we were shocked to say the least.  So many friends and family gathered to celebrate our love for each other.  We felt so blessed.  Shortly after that moment, I remember feeling like all of those people disappeared as Peter and I shared our first dance.  It felt as if we were the only people in the room and again I had this overwhelming gratitude because I was married to the most amazing man I know.  I felt safe… I felt loved…I felt beautiful, and I knew for the rest of my life he would make me feel this way.

I remember dancing the night away.  Feelings of joy and love never left my heart.  I remember watching my 90 year old grandmother dance with every man in the room and friends smiling and laughing.  I remember dancing to, “All the Single Ladies,” with my father-in-law.  We were laughing so hard.  I remember hugging the necks of new and old friends…of family I had not seen in years.  More and more I began to realize how each person affected my life.  I remember a friend getting on stage with the band and singing, “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough.”  The whole evening Peter and I kept saying to each other, “We have the most unbelievable people in our lives.”  For the rest of our lives we will remain undoubtedly thankful for the people God has brought and continues to bring into our lives.

I remember leaving the reception.  Peter and I hugged our parents, who were all beaming with joy.  I remember giving my sister the biggest hug…then Peter grabbed my hand and we walked quickly through a tunnel of sparklers.  We laughed, people shouted words of wisdom to us, and we were off…Mr. and Mrs. Peter Pincoffs.  What a glorious weekend?  Marriage truly is a blessing from above, a mystery only God can understand.  I am so thankful for the blessing of marriage…for the beauty my husband brings to my life.”
